According to Forbes Magazine, 40% of all jobs will be free-lance or self-employed by 2030. Learn how to build your own company, profit while helping others, and take charge of your future. In this 8-week workshop, high school students will:

  • Discover what entrepreneurial ideas truly motivate them
  • Learn how to develop a business plan
  • Develop and practice networking skills
  • Create marketing strategies to pitch business ideas
  • Turn an initial investment into a sustainable profit!

Yoga is the practice of accessing and integrating all aspects of our true nature -- body, mind, and spirit. Both sessions will focus on helping youth explore ways to reduce stress, express and manage emotions through yoga, meditation and mindfulness. Instructor: Ahminah Cottman, Reclaim Yoga

Spooky Stories

For Philadelphia Students Age 7-10

Tuesdays, 6:00-7:30 pm

Mar. 7, 14, 21, & 28

This workshop will take place at 2123 N. Gratz Street

Join us and discover techniques to craft some seriously scary stories. You'll learn how to develop suspense and foreshadowing techniques that keep your reader hooked, and plot twists to keep them on the edge of their seat. You'll also practice creating realistic dialogue and making use of all the senses to create spooky settings and characters. At the conclusion of this class we'll publish our stories as a book and have a spine-tingling spooky story reading. Instructor: Shamira O'Neal 

 

Art Making Workshop

For Philadelphia Students Age 11-16

Mondays, 6:00-7:30 pm

Mar. 6, 20, & 27

2123 N. Gratz Street

In this workshop we will be writing stories, poetry, and creating artwork with restrictions (oulipo writing).  We'll write poems and stories by cutting out words from magazines, create collages dedicated to a certain color, write poems about ourselves only using words that start with the first letter of our first names, and more! Bring some fun magazines if you have them and we'll supply the rest! Instructor: Kelly Tripp

Business-making for Social Justice!

For Philadelphia students grades 6 to 12

Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30

May 4, 11, 18, 25

Starting a business isn't always about making money. Sometimes creating a business can be about helping the people within your community. This workshop will teach you how you can bridge the gap between social justice and your own business goals. We'll show you what kinds of opportunities are out there and some of the tools you'll need in order to become a Social Entrepreneur! All who participate will have the opportunity to help create a coffee shop for the Advocate during the End of the Year Showcase and Block Party on June 11th.
