The Parachute Cord Design Workshop
Parachute cord is a cord that can be used for practically anything. Soldiers in the army used it for parachutes, astronauts used this cord to repair the historical and innovative Hubble Space Telescope, and it can be used for many other tasks as well.
In this two-part parachute cord design workshop, participants will learn different parachute bracelet and key chain making techniques, make their own accessories, learn how to DIY (Do It Yourself) and much more about the history of this cord and the best uses for it. Parachute cord comes in a variety of different colors and people can use them to show off what best represents them — whether it’s to show off native flag colors, school colors, or their favorite colors. Parachute cord design is a fun hobby that has limitless capabilities and can be a fun project for kids and adults to do at home!

Community Drum Circle
Drum circles have always been a part of the African diasporic narratives. The rhythms and beats often tell a story. In this workshop, youth get to learn about the anatomy of the djembe and its use. They will also get to share stories while drumming. This session teaches youth the importance of remembering, reclaiming, and reaffirming one another in our community. Key terms for exploration and understanding: ubuntu, hotep, asé.
